Wadawurrung Language

For Library I created a poster about some words from the tribes near Ballarat. I focused on the Wadawurrung language. Hope you enjoy it.

What is something you learnt about the Wadawurrung language?

Image Analysis-Aborigines Meet People that are on the Way to the diggings

Source: E. Von Guérard, Aborigines met on the way to the diggings, 1854, collection: Geelong Gallery, gift of W. M. Bell and N. Belcher, 1923.

I see

.an Aboriginal man holding what looks like some animals fur
.lots of open land
.2 men and a dog looking at the fu
.a river in the background
.a tree branch that has fallen down
.a weird looking yellow thing that is curved next to the path
.some aborigines next to a fire
.some animals and people walking up a little hill in the background

I think

I think that the aboriginal men are trying to sell the fur to the 2 men so that they can stay warm in the very cold winter. I think that the man is kneeling down because he is begging for a lower price because it is so expensive. I also think that the people near the fire are trying to cook something because it look like it is the middle of the day.

I wonder

.what is the yellow curved thing and what are they are used for?
.are people looking for gold in the river?
.why the men is on his knees?

What other things do you see, think and wonder?

Making Quality Comments

In week 2 of the blogging challenge we learnt about writing quality comments. Here is a poster I made to tell people how to create a quality comment.

What do you think is the most important aspect of writing a quality comment?

Avatars: Why are they Important

As part of the Student Blogging Challenge we were set to create and avatar. We got to go on an online website and create and avatar that we thought looked like us. In this blog post I am going to tell you the importance of having an avatar and how it can help you online.

Imagine this, you put a selfie of yourself online because it had a place to put a photo of yourself, anyone can use it for whatever they want and if there is a hacker they could get your photo and use it to get ANY of your personal information. This could include, your address, the school that you go to, your birth date, they could steal money from you, they could track you down and steal any other personal information. No! No! No! You do NOT want that to happen to you, so that is why you use an avatar. An avatar is a cartoon picture of you that is created and looks like you with some features that you have but it isn’t exactly like you. This can really protect you and others when online.

In the image below you can see my avatar! It has features that I have but it is not my actual face. My avatar has long brown hair and brown eyes. It also has tan skin and blue clothes and a blue background because my absolute favourite colour is blue. What features would you put on your avatar and why?

Term 1 Library Reflection

Hi everyone,

This last term of library has been so fun. We have done lots of amazing and creative things and have got new library apps on our iPad so we can listen to audiobooks, and scan our own library books. In this blog post I’m going to tell you about myself as a reader, what books I enjoy and am going to give you a recondition of a book that I have really loved.

What genres of books do I enjoy…

Well it is hard to choose what genres I enjoy most but I have 2 that I like reading, adventure and family and friendship. I love adventure because I love when the character or characters explore and face obstacles along the way and in lots of book they find something new or a the place where they wanted to go. The next genre of book that I love to read is family and friendship. I love these books because there is always a big relationship between characters and they always work together an achieve something great that is really kind and normally for someone else. I also like family and friendship because in some books I can relate to some thing that has happened to me or one of my family members.

The Wild Robot

If I had to give a suggestion of a book that I have read it would probably be ‘The Wild Robot’ by Peter Brown.I loved this book because it had both the genres that I like, family and friendship and adventure. This book is about a robot called Roz who’s ship sinks and his creat drifts to a island and it is about him adapting to the wilderness with the animals that live their. I would recommend it to anybody who likes reading because it is pretty easy and it hooks you in really well.

At the moment I am reading the book ‘The Girl the Cat and the Navigator’ for book chat. It is about a girl named Oona who escapes secretly  from he sisters and her mum onto a ship to travel north with her dad because it is her dream to explore the north. I loved this book because it has so much adventure and she explores and faces so many cool and weird challenges and obstacles along the way.

What is your favourite book and why?

My First Month in year 5

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year! Sorry I haven’t posted in a long time, that was because we have just had the Christmas holidays and you know what that means! I have moved from year 4 – year 5. This year we have the most amazing teacher called Mrs.Straford, she is so kind and fun. We got back to school on 31/1/2020, so I have nearly been in year 5 for 5 weeks. So in this post I am going to tell your some of the thing we have done so far and what we are looking forward to…

In 5SD this term we have been looking at our brain and how it works. We are learning about the emotional brain and the smart brain, we have learnt about neutrons and have done a fun experiments. In the last 3 weeks we were trying to teach ourselves how to juggle. The reason we are learning how to juggle is to show how many times our brain has to practice, what you want to learn, until the gaps in each brain path build a bridge and then it is easy to juggle.

One of my favourite things so far in year 5 is A.P.S. One of the thing that we did is we got to do a mini triathlon. We had to do at least 4 laps of the swimming pool, a 1.7km bike ride and a 800m run. Before we did the triathlon we did two sessions of swimming and two sessions of bike riding. We have also done our first rock climbing session.

Even though it’s only the first term, we have quite a few exciting events coming up this year too. This year we have two camps and next term we have our first year 5 camp. We are going to go to Sovereign Hill. After that our next camp will be at the beach. We also have a year 5 market that the whole school goes to (where we make homemade products), and then near the end of year 5 we write and act about Australian History. We have a lot of fun things happening this year and something to look forward to every term.

What is something you are looking forward to this year?

Advice to New Year 4’s

Dear Future Year 4’s,

I hear you’re coming up to 4LX next year.

Here’s three things you should know:

•in year 4 you have the most amazing and exciting year with the nicest teacher Mrs Lennox. You don’t know how lucky you are to be in 4LX

• you get to have your own year 2 buddy. You will have to look after your buddy and take care of him or her. You will also have to be kind and caring to them. (Make sure you know what class they are in!)

•  make sure you do your homework every night because there becomes more homework and you need to get it done.

A couple of things to look forward to are:

•  CAMP! Camp is sooo fun with all your friends. It is a 2 night camp and you do so many fun activities. You get your own cabin with some of your friends. (Make sure you don’t talk all night! AND make sure you go to the top of the giant swing even if your scared because you will regret it and you only get 1 chance.

• the nativity is also SO fun. You get to create your script and addition for a character. Then you preform to the nursing home residence and the parents and year 3.

A time I laughed was when when we were practicing the nativity and we made up some funny joke. Also when Ollie told funny jokes.

A time I was challenged was when we had to find information on tsunamis and we had to write and information report because I had to use scientific words.

I am proud of how much i have learnt of blogging. I didn’t really know what a blog was but now I have my own blog and have created about 30 blog posts.

I always remember Mrs Lennox saying this is our class not my class.

4T Nativity

“Fear not, I am here to deliver you some news of great joy. This very day in David’s town your Savior has been born, Christ the Lord,” praised Gabriel with his arms stretched as he told the great news to the shepherds.

Now I know what your thinking, what does this mean, what were we doing and who is Gabriel. Well this is only one line of the nativity that our class preformed. The nativity is the story of Jesus and how Joseph and Mary took the news of Jesus birth.

To make the nativity 4T read some books about the nativity and wrote down some character traits of the characters in the nativity. Then we were put in groups to make scripts. After the scrips were did we auditioned for the character that we wanted to be. Then we heard who was what. For home work that week we had to learn our lines and then we practiced as a class. Thanks to our lovely teacher we practiced lots and our nativity looked perfect.

Some Scenes from the nativity

A challenge throughout this process was leaning my lines but I worked through it by practicing it every day.  Overall, I really enjoyed doing the 3 performances.

If you were in the nativity who would you want to be?

Beneath our Feet

This term our unit was beneath our feet so we had the chance to research about a natural disaster. I research and wrote my own information report on tsunamis. Here is my information report:

We ended the unit by creating dioramas to show our understandings and shared them with our year 2 buddies. Here is my diorama:

Whilst creating my diorama I most enjoyed making the wave because I found it challenging and it took me 3 tries to get it right.

Leave a comment telling me about a natural disaster that you know about around the world.

Perimeter and Area

In Measurement and Geometry we are looking at calculating the perimeter and area of regular shapes.

Perimeter is the length of the outside borders of a shape.

Area is the amount of space covered inside a shape.

In the real world using knowledge of this would help you know the perimeter of a block of land if you want to buy a little house and you can guess how much you want to pay for it.

When is a real life example when you have used this knowledge in your life?
